I've heard this, too: “The church isn’t a museum for saints, but a hospital for sinners!” and I like your response, "I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to check in to a hospital where somebody went in with a broken leg 8 years ago and still can’t walk."
I think considering ourselves righteous is off-putting because the focus is usually on how we behave. It may help to accept what God calls us if we ask, "Do I believe God?" Paul emphasized that Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness. Abraham didn't always act righteously, but He took God at His word. He believed God, and God called him righteous.
What Grace, that God who is both righteous and righteousness itself considers us like Him when we do not "waver at the promise of God through unbelief" but are "fully convinced that what He promised He is also able to perform" (Romans 4:20-21).
I usually like to read your posts instead of podcasts… sometimes I have to skim because of time constraints… I’m so thankful for substack… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I especially like Godly perspectives on current events… example… the article you mentioned on the Olympic woman fighter having to fight a man PRETENDING to be a woman…
I’ve been discussing these articles with my high school and college boys… many great discussions… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
“When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it:”
I agree with this idea, very much so! The way we think about ourselves is very important. So is the way we think about others. We can't walk in the light and say that we are just like everyone else, stumbling around in darkness. You make good points.
Also, It makes me feel uncomfortable to call myself - and others - basically trash ( wretches, worms, vile, forever a broken sinner, etc.)
Every human being was created in the image of God - AND is worthy of God's love and has the potential of repentance and God's righteousness.
Thanks for bringing this up!! Very much appreciated
I don't listen to podcasts
I like to read.
Hey Jack... my 2 cents: daily isn't too much if the content is useful to me. =)
Good to know, thanks!

Absolutely, it has to be all of faith or it will only lead to pride.

Break Free with Karen Hunt Substack had some interesting background context about the fight and participants. Worth a look.

We are in very righteous company Jack.
