I have studied the religions of our Jewish ancestors and why Israel fell. There were hundreds of fake gods to choose from and worship if that is what they wanted. Instead, they always worshiped the Ashera Pole goddess with her legalized pornography and prostitution, and Baal worship with its legalized child killing. They chose the religions that were the most "fun" to them.
I'm teaching a class on the Kings of Israel and Judah and the majority of people of Judah were just like those in Israel in their worship. They made their own worship up as time went by and eventually they also were put "out of the sight of God". They had some restorationists like Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jotham, Hezekiah and especially Josiah but the people chose easy, comfortable worship just the same as the majority of people today.
Actually, when enough people want to do something that is against the law, they call it a religion. I cannot begin to imagine the patience of God when people hurt him so badly.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into the captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:4-5).

Yes, call it out for what it is! Pray, study and live to fight and defeat the demons!
Many take comfort in Matt 16:18. That does not set aside the need for the whole council of God and our duty to defend it.
