I’ve been trying to decide how to get my latest content out without overdoing the emails. Between two articles a week, Think Deeper Podcast, Masculinity Monday, Cultural Breakdown, the newly-added Memeology Under Review, and the (alleged) arrival of Thursdays Through the Text, that’s just way too much to send out by email.
So, each Saturday I’ll be sending out a roundup to put it all in one place and share some recommendations of other people’s work I enjoyed that week.
(And I’m off to a roaring start with this, as it was supposed to send at 9 in the morning and not 9 at night. Next time!)
As always, I recommend subscribing to the podcast feed to get audio editions of my articles and videos delivered straight to your phone. And, if you enjoy the content, consider becoming a supporting subscriber!
Articles
“Fear-Based Discipleship in the Churches of Christ” - on the issue of graceless, works-based preaching that gives people no assurance of heaven
“The Need for Ambition in the Church” - on the importance of encouraging men to pursue and prepare themselves for the office of eldership
Videos
No Masculinity Monday this week, but I did have a Cultural Breakdown on “A Critical Lesson from RFK Jr.”
And, two new Memeology Under Review shorts:
“Err on the Side of Love” aka “The Worst Quote I’ve Ever Read”
Podcast
Think Deeper Podcast features the first half of a listener Q&A session, with questions on when Christians can judge, how to care for new Christians, how church of Christ members see people in denominations, and more.
Recommendations:
The pre-order page went up for Dr. Brad Harrub’s new book on parenting, co-written with his wife, Melinda. It’s already a big hit for us at Focus Press, so go check it out!
Last week I wrote a bit on the Holy Spirit controversy in the churches of Christ. Luke Taylor at 2BeLikeChrist had a great take of his own on the subject of the Spirit’s indwelling, which you can read here: Does God Affect our Lives Outside of the Word? – The Implications of Believing in Prayer
If you’re looking for a long-form analysis of the Holy Spirit issue, check out what Mike Hisaw had to say in his videos on the Spirit.
And, my brother
dropped a rather spicy article about how the world of therapy is damaging the people it was meant to help. Check it out over on his Substack.
