He wants our heart! I would feel guilty by not being in attendance of any meeting of the saints. I too know that there is no such thing as " attendance only" salvation and I feel there are those who have come to believe thats all it takes...attend and occupy a pew.😂
I agree with you on "attendance" salvation. I think it's partly due to the modern translations of Romans 12:1 and Hebrews 12:28, just to name a few. Prior to the RSV translation of 1946/1952, the word "worship" was not in either of these verses! but now the teaching of serving God with fear and reverence and being living sacrifices as being pleasing to God has been replaced with worship as what is pleasing to God.
I am always confused by Christians who look for loopholes in their relationship with God. I cannot tell you how many parents that have come to me lamenting that their children left the church when they got out of the house. How important was God and the church to you when your kids was home?
It’s all about choices and priorities… I have a feeling my kids get tired of hearing me say this in homeschool… There needs to be push back with the local public schools as well as AYSO and other volunteer children’s sports organizations… It makes me grind my teeth to see the local high schools doing soccer practice and games on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights… Don’t you think they’re making a statement?! What about the kids that WANT to go to worship and Bible class?! 🔥
It does reveal a lack of commitment. I recall reading about a lady who converted to the Lutheran faith from Catholicism. She was puzzled by the desire of some in her new faith to schedule a baptism around the Pittsburgh Stealers home games.
As this sports issue is likely wrapped up in the public schools, perhaps the fight parents should be having is with their school teachers and board members. We've seen the disinterested attitude of public schools when it comes to Christianity, so it is no surprise that the school system is wielding yet another "weapon" to block Christianity.
Thank you for bringing this up. It has been the practice of public schools for years.
Thank you for stating with clarity what must be said. Fecklessness regarding something to fundamental will not receive God's blessing. You are in my prayers.
Agree with Phil about the "heart". The "Restoration" tradition about attendance has morphed into a "salvation issue" because we are in a blessed country with many opportunities. Expectation to be in attendance every time the doors are open has been prevalent for decades. Guilt, instead of discipling, has been a standard tool of persuasion. When leadership copies "old school" rhetoric instead of trying to understand today's culture and address it differently, nothing good comes from it.
I really appreciate you expounding on this topic. I feel those who will use the sports, etc. and miss assembling with others so much is really telling to their children where their priorities are. This will be so detrimental to their children on their later years. Our children had to pull out of sports over time as it would interfere with our first love, the church and God. God needs to be first. Thank you for this. I'll be praying for you and your health as well.

Exactly. It's to our great shame that a mass pushback has never happened.

Amazing how easily someone can see it coming from the outside in, when so many on the inside can't
