An excellent article as usual! And I am so glad you bring up the so-called "five acts of worship"...
I've only been hearing about this recently and I've kind of been scratching my head as to where it has come from. I have read some Catholic things that mentioned the "five acts of adoration", so I guess this is the non-catholic equivalent?🤔
But I do understand that since the Bible says to sing and pray and give and participate in the Lord's supper and listen to the word of God that we just combine those all under the umbrella idea of worship... But I think it's fine to just call those things what they are instead of re-defining them as worship. Because, yes, those are things God wants us to do, but doing all of it -and only - "at church" is where we get tripped up (potentially) because all of these things we can do on our own while not being in a "church building."
Religious ritual is the perfect phrase for what's going on here, you have hit the nail on the head!! 👉🤌 💯 And taking pride in that religious ritual... or thinking that that's what I put my confidence in that makes me right with God...eek 😬, I think that's not a place I want my heart to be in, since we know how God feels about pride.🤗 I will be sharing this article for sure!
Thank you and I really appreciate your ability to write this and your bravery to do so as I know what challenges a lot of thinking. ❤️
Good article but it can also make people doubt if they are "good enough" or that they have to earn their salvation. I assume you meant people that don't bother at all about their walk outside the church.
